Steps to Apply:
- Nomination
Candidates must first be nominated by the Head of Association or Chief Instructor; speak to your club Sensei in the first instance. - Application forms
Download the relevant form for you:- Junior Coach Application Form
- Senior Coaching Application Form (first time taking that level)
- Coaches Renewal Application Form (if renewing a level you previously took)
- Complete and get your form counter signed
All application forms must be completed by you and then countersigned by the Head Coach of your association. - Application submission
Send your completed, countersigned application form to
coachingcoordinator@icloud.com
Include:- 1st Aid Certificate (take the course here if you do not have an up to date first aid qualification)
- Current DBS (email coachingcoordinator@icloud.com to apply if you do not have an up to date DBS already; see also the notes below about changes in DBS Check provider)
- Professional Indemnity, if you run a class (apply for your Professional Indemnity Coaching Insurance and Licence)
- Payment
Payments are made online; please click the appropriate link in the table below for the level you are taking for the first time, or the link to pay to renew an existing level. - Renewals
If you are renewing a Coaching Qualification, once you send the renewal application form (see above), you will receive links for the online TES course. You do not need to submit any essays to renew an existing level. - Distance Learning Essays
If you are taking a new level for the first time, after submitting the application form, payment, 1st Aid and DBS Certificates, you should send essays (one A4 page per module) to
coachingcoordinator@icloud.com.
You should write a short essay for each topic required for your level, related to Ju Jitsu practice.Juniors

Seniors
Level 1 Novice Coach (for Purple Belt and above)
- Communication Skills, Code of Ethics, Child Protection Policy.
Level 2 Assistant Coach (for Brown Belt and above)
- All the above modules plus Teaching Methods, Skill Classification, Coaching Skills
Level 3 Club Coach (1st Dan and above)
- All above modules plus Health and Safety, Policy, Coaches Legal Obligations, Injury Prevention, Cryotherapy, Menstrual Cycle.
Level 4 Senior Coach (3rd Dan and above)
- All the above modules plus Training Principles, Developing Mental Imagery Skills, Relaxation.
- TES Online Learning Modules
Upon completion and verification of your Distance Learning essays (if you are completing a new level), you will receive links for the TES online learning modules. You will be provided with a link to an online Open Learning course and the Anti Bullying CPD course. Complete these modules online, before the coaching course, and send your TES certificates to
coachingcoordinator@icloud.com.
Juniors and Seniors should download and review the
Health and Safety Guidelines and Policy for Ju Jitsu. - Course Invitation
After completing all criteria, you will receive an invitation to attend the course.

Change in DBS Check Provider
Our DBS check provider has changed from First Advantage to uCheck.
Key points:
- All future DBS checks will be processed via uCheck.
- Existing DBS certificates remain valid.
- Association Heads or Senior Representatives are invited to becomeDBS Verifiers to help streamline the process.
- A small £6 admin fee applies for new verifier accounts. New uCheck User
- We advise all applicants to register onto the DBS Update Service, this allows applicants to keep their DBS Certificate up to date. Cost is £16 per year which can be made by debit or credit card. There is no charge if the applicant is a volunteer.
If applicants are in the process of getting a standard or enhanced DBS check.
You will need your application reference number (called ‘form ref’ on your application form).
DBS must receive your application form within 28 days.
