The British Ju Jitsu Association Governing Body (BJJAGB) is proud to announce that it has successfully met the conditions of its continued recognition by Sport England. This significant achievement marks a positive step forward in the Association’s commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) within the sport.*
Following the completion of Sport England’s diagnostic process and confirmation of the Association’s active engagement—particularly through the upcoming participation of EDI a Sport England representative in a Working Group session—Sport England has officially acknowledged BJJAGB’s progress and reaffirmed its recognition as the National Governing Body for Ju Jitsu in England.
In correspondence with BJJAGB Chair, Sport England stated:
Now that you have completed the diagnostic and have provided us with a date on which our named member of staff can attend one of your EDI Working Group meetings, we now consider that the British Ju Jitsu Association Governing Body has met the conditions of its continued recognition.
The sentiments expressed in your email indicate that you, as the BJJAGB Chair, share our desire to see change and this is an encouraging milestone for you and your Board. Thank you for your help with these matters and best wishes to all the Board at BJJAGB.
BJJAGB Chair Prof MARTIN DIXON commented:
“We are immensely proud of this recognition and grateful to Sport England for their continued support. This milestone reflects the collective efforts of our Voluntary Board, staff, and community in building a more inclusive future for Ju Jitsu across England. We are committed to ongoing improvement and collaboration in line with national EDI standards.”
This achievement reaffirms BJJAGB’s dedication to fostering a safe, inclusive, and representative sporting environment, ensuring that the values of equality and respect remain at the heart of the martial arts community.
